Bengaluru FC defeated Mohammedan SC 2-1 in the Indian Super League here on Wednesday thanks to two late goals from Sunil Chhetri. Cesar Manzoki gave the home team the lead early on, but Chhetri, who in as a substitute, scored twice to help the visitors record a historic victory.
Chhetri currently leads the league in scoring the most spot-kicks (20) in the history of the tournament and became the first player to score against all 15 ISL teams.
In the eighth minute, Mohammedan SC took the lead as Manzoki headed the ball in from Kasimov’s exquisite corner.
The hosts had a fantastic chance to double their advantage at the beginning of the second half. Franca’s penalty box play was set up by Manzoki’s superb handling of a long ball. The Brazilian’s attempt, though, went completely off course.

Gerard Zaragoza made the decision to substitute Chhetri in the 53rd minute in order to increase the offensive momentum. With Chhetri occupying the central position, the transfer enabled Jorge Pereyra Diaz to transition to a broader role.
Even with Chhetri on the pitch, the Blues were unable to generate opportunities despite controlling possession. Williams’ crosses caused some problems, but Diaz and the Australian were not on the same page.
Chernyshov changed things up in the 70th minute by substituting Alexis Gomez for Franca. After a quick break, Remsanga released the Argentine on the left side, nearly giving the home team an immediate advantage.
Gomez calmed down and tried to hit the ball low to the left, but Gurpreet Singh Sandhu made an incredible stop to keep him out.
Manzoki gave the Blues the ideal chance to equalize in the 82nd minute by taking down Capo in the penalty area.
Bengaluru FC returned to the game as Chhetri stepped up and slammed the ball into the far left corner.
After giving in, Mohammedan SC nearly had the ideal response. Remsanga on the right discovered Manzoki in the box after Gomez gained possession and let him go. The lanky forward’s clever movement caused him to lose his marker, but on its way out, his header hit the post.
When Chhetri stepped up from Lalremtluanga Fanai’s cross to head the ball home past Bhaskar in goal in the final seconds of the game, Bengaluru FC finally claimed the lead against all odds.
